One-third of all highway fatalities result from vehicles leaving the road and hitting some fixed object or overturning, and an astounding two-thirds of fatalities in rural areas are run-off-road crashes. This course will focus how to reduce these fatalities, with focus on application of the Roadside Design Guide. Areas covered include clear zone, slopes, sign supports, trees, guardrails, end treatments, and bridge transitions, and identification of problem areas.
