The agenda for this course is to teach and discuss the topics of:  Tort Liability, Common Problem Areas, and Risk Management Concepts.  The objectives are to understand importance and implications of Tort Liability Risk in Roadway Agencies, review legal aspects and identify ways to reduce risk.

One-third of all highway fatalities result from vehicles leaving the road and hitting some fixed object or overturning, and an astounding two-thirds of fatalities in rural areas are run-off-road crashes. This course will focus how to reduce these fatalities, with focus on application of the Roadside Design Guide. Areas covered include clear zone, slopes, sign supports, trees, guardrails, end treatments, and bridge transitions, and identification of problem areas.
