The AZ LTAP Road Scholar Program  provides basic information/training on maintaining local streets and roads.  The Program provides an opportunity for municipal employees to be trained by LTAP in the latest technologies and innovations through a series of training sessions conducted at convenient locations throughout Arizona. This training program is an invaluable resource, providing quality training at a price that is affordable to counties and municipalities (free for member local governments for all courses excluding  the $10 certification fee for CPR/First Aid).

The program offers 3 levels of training.

Level I Road Scholar:

Aimed at entry-level transportation employees, those with no or limited experience, (up to 5 years experience in the transportation field.) Road Scholar LVL I training answers municipalities' need to keep roadways safer and properly maintained at a lower cost.

Level II Road Scholar:

Aimed at employees working within transportation industry, motivated to advance their knowledge, skills and abilities to excel  their career. Road Scholar LVL II training is in  the beginning supervisory level and management course work (up to 10 years of field experience).  Road Scholar LVL II courses provide training for foremen and crew leaders.

Aimed at employees within the transportation industry working in supervisory level and management positions (traditionally up to 15 years or more of experience.)  Road Scholar LVL III courses provide training for elected municipal officials in topics such as planning, supervising, policy making and managing.

Recognition:

The successful completion of the program leads to the Roads Scholar designation, certificate, an award and the student's supervisor is notified in writing about the students' achievement.

Those who complete the program will receive a certificate (signed by FHWA Division Administrator, ADOT Director and the LTAP Director) and award:
LVL I: baseball cap*;
LVL II: your choice of a short sleeve polo shirt or a long sleeve denim shirt*;
LVL III: Black jacket*.
