New and Emerging Strategies for Road—Weather Management - Verde Room Speaker: Ray Murphy, US Department of Transportation, FHWA/ Resource Center Olympia Fields, IL You will learn about two emerging technologies designed to help winter maintenance managers make better informed road treatment decisions. Environmental Sensor Station (ESS) provides new guidelines for sitting road-weather sensor stations that provides data to assess weather impacts on roadways. There are many challenges to dealing with multiple conditions in one municipality. Operations in Cold Weather – Verde Room Speaker: Terry Reams, City of Edmonton Winter maintenance operations in a cold weather climate can be "interesting" at times. This session will examine various challenges that can be encountered when dealing with extreme climatic conditions and methods to overcome them.
