Introduction to Survey and Grade Checking
This course provides an overview on the surveying profession including the history of surveying and its impact on the world. Participants will review the mathematics used in surveying and be introduced to basic surveying equipment with an emphasis on horizontal and vertical measurements. This course is 16 hours in length and includes actual field lab exercises where the participants have the opportunity to practice topics covered in the classroom. |

NHI 134077 Contract Administration Core Curriculum
More than 10,000 Federal-aid construction contracts are authorized by FHWA each year. Those contracts are subsequently administered by State departments of transportation and local public agencies that may not be familiar with FHWA's complex requirements for construction contracts. Recent FHWA program reviews of projects administered by local public agencies indicated that contract administration is a continuing high-risk area that needs additional focus. |
Risk Management
The agenda for this course is to teach and discuss the topics of: Tort Liability, Common Problem Areas, and Risk Management Concepts. The objectives are to understand importance and implications of Tort Liability Risk in Roadway Agencies, review legal aspects and identify ways to reduce risk. |
Roadside Hazard Identification for Transportation Personnel
The Roadside Hazard Identification course will provide information and resources for municipalities to understand the importance of roadside safety and to be able to determine the most appropriate countermeasures. This class is not a design class but will focus on practical applications of roadside safety concepts. For example, it will follow the common theme for roadside hazard identification and improvement: hazard removal, relocation, make breakaway, shield, and delineate. |

This course covers Federal OSHA policies, procedures and standards, as well as general industry safety and health principles. Topics include scope and application of the OSHA General Industry Standards. Special emphasis is placed on those areas that are the most hazardous in non-construction industries, using OSHA standards as a guide. Participants will learn to apply the appropriate Federal OSHA standard that applies to hazards present in their workplaces. |
