The course provides detailed information concerning the evaluation and quality standards for rehabilitation of asphalt pavement. The course covers concepts that assist pavement engineers and superintendents in developing the most reliable and cost effective rehabilitation alternatives for existing asphalt pavement.

Fee: $95.00 includes all workshop materials, professional development hours (PDH), lunch and breaks. All proceeds go to the Witczak’s endowment at ASU, which pays for student scholarships and other scholarly activities.

Who Should Attend:

The target audience for this course is state and local highway personnel dealing with design, construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation of asphalt pavement.


  1. Introduction
  2. Traffic loading
  3. Basic distress mechanisms
  4. Drainage
  5. Pavement evaluation techniques (condition survey, serviceability, structural capacity, friction)
  6. Maintenance and rehabilitation materials
  7. Preservation timing and preparation before resurfacing or restoration (crack sealing, patching, milling, leveling course)
  8. System preservation treatments (fog seal, chip seal, slurry seal and microsurfacing, asphalt rubber)
  9. Recycling of pavement materials
  10. Full depth concrete reclamation of distressed asphalt pavements
  11. Hot mix asphalt overlays


Pre-registration is required. The registration fee is $95 and will include workshop materials, professional development hours, lunch and breaks. The deadline to register is February 5, 2018.
