EveryOne Counts Safety Summit
February 10, 2009
Phoenix, AZ

The groundbreaking 2009 EveryOne Counts Safety Summit provides a forum for sharing information on best practices in engineering, enforcement, education, and emergency medical services to discuss opportunities and for identifying new approaches to reduce the number of traffic fatalities and life-changing injuries on Arizona roads.

Arizona is the ONLY state listed by FHWA as a focus state in all 4 focus areas:  Intersection, pedestrian, roadway departure, and speeding fatalities.

On average, at least three people are killed everyday on Arizona’s roads.  In 2006, the number of fatalities was 1,288, an increase of 22 percent over 2001.  In 2007, there was a reduction of 17% with 1,066 fatalities.  “The only acceptable number of fatalities is zero,” said Governor Janet Napolitano, “but it is encouraging to see the decrease in fatalities in 2007.  This means our message to drive sober, fasten your seat belt, keep your attention on the road - and others - are working.”

WHAT IS THE SUMMIT?
The 2009 Every
One Counts Safety Summit is an opportunity for safety officials and advocates to share experiences, opportunities, and successes in improving traffic safety throughout our state. The Summit is designed to foster discussion and interaction between presenters and participants on programs that are coordinated and developed to influence public and private policy that increase public awareness of highway safety, specifically how to reduce fatalities on Arizona’s Roadways.  Emphasis areas from the Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) will be the primary content of the summit, with a variety of topics, including the state's strategic highway safety plan, crash data usage, safety education programs, financial resources, enforcement opportunities, and numerous others.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Supervisors and managers in city, county, state, tribal and federal agency road or street departments, law enforcement personnel, state, city and county government officials, educators and counselors, traffic safety engineers, emergency responders, and all other traffic safety advocates.

Come prepared to share ideas, gain insights, and find new ways to improve traffic safety in Arizona.
