safety for workers. Liability, and image of your agency. Each section covers a single topic. Part 1 dramatically emphasizes the need
for safety in work zones to help reduce the risk of accidents in a day time
operations. This part covers the
basic concepts for planning and implementing safe work zones. Part 2 discusses the elements of design,
proper application and placement of traffic control devices, including signs,
channelization devices, barricades, warning lights, arrow panels, and
portable variable message signs. Part
3 examines the five traffic control areas; advance warning, transition,
buffer, work zone and termination.
Part 4 illustrates traffic control schemes for some common types of
operations, including work in the shoulder on two-lane roads, two-lane
roadway closure, urban four-lane undivided highway, four-lane divided
highway, and mowing operations. |

Part
5 covers the responsibilities of flaggers, including proper attire, equipment
and skills. It also illustrates some
typical situations faced by flaggers: advance flagging, single flagging,
night-time flagging, one direction of traffic flagging, and emergency
flagging. Part 6 illustrates the
importance of liability issues. It
outlines the steps to take to prevent liability in the work place: having a
traffic control plan for each job, following the MUTCD, removing traffic
control devices that are no longer needed, and documenting all work. Part 7 sums up the subject be presenting a
typical day. Utilizes both lecture
and demonstration instructional format.
