One of the core functions of the LTAP program is to provide technical training for the local communities. AZ LTAP does not schedule classes on a regular or cyclical basis; rather our local agencies determine what the needs are, and when and where they would like them delivered to best meet their needs.
All courses on the AZ LTAP training schedule have been requested by our customers. Please do not wait for training you need, request it.
Sign Retroreflectometer: The retroreflectometer is a RETROSIGN 4500 with GPS capability. Included is an extension pole to extend the operator's reach an additional nine feet and includes a remote trigger with digital display, allowing the operator to take multiple readings without having to retract the pole each time.
Turning Movement Counter: The DB-400 is an electronic hand held device that enables the agency to do the most common of all manual traffic data studies: intersection-turning movement counts. The DB-400 records turning movement data for up to three classes of vehicles, downloads to PETRAPro software, is accurate, reliable, and easy to use. The software program allows the agency to easily read, edit, and store the data as well as print a variety of reports and graphs without having to manually enter the data.
The AZ LTAP maintains a video library and a CD Library. Topics range from safety issues, preventative methods, to new technology. The center loans any of the videos listed in the library catalog; and available publications are listed periodically in the quarterly newsletter. Videos and CDs will not be sent out of the State.
Our newsletter, the Arizona Milepost is distributed in each of the four seasons. Each Milepost will have a specific focus such as dust control in the summer issue or snow and ice control in the fall issue. Selected additional information will also be provided to make the newsletter both informative and entertaining.
Technology transfer can be viewed as any process by which existing research knowledge or new technology is transferred into usual processes, products or programs. Effective technology transfer is necessary to compete in today's ever-changing world. It has been reported that 90% of what is in print today has been produced in the last 30 years. Similarly, the information explosion created by tools like the internet is changing not only how we do business, but perhaps even the way we live.
One of the AZ LTAP goals is to provide local transportation agencies and public works officials with technical assistance such as advice, guidance, and referral services. Technical assistance is often provided in areas such as road construction, maintenance, and administrative issues. This service is not intended to supplant or compete with traditional engineering or consulting services, but rather to augment them. Typically, these kinds of issues are project related but in the case of new product evaluation, for example they could represent an ongoing or continuous need.
Our program maintains a valuable list of transportation-related links for agencies to use as a reference. The links include:
The AZ LTAP has a comprehensive heavy equipment training and certification program with a full-time heavy equipment trainer dedicated to delivery. Training is available for Motorgrader, Backhoe, Bulldozer, and Front End Loader. Participants are trained for 30 hours a week (3 or 4 days). A maximum of 15 participants is permitted per class.
The AZ LTAP Road Scholar program provides multiple levels of training on maintaining local streets and roads. The program provides an opportunity for municipal employees to be trained by AZ LTAP in the latest technologies and innovations through a series of training sessions conducted at convenient locations throughout Arizona. This training is an invaluable resource, providing quality training at a price that is affordable to counties and municipalities. Other than external certification fees for training such as first aid/cpr, all road scholar courses are free for contributing local governments.
This program reviews and evaluates products for the Arizona Department of Transportation. The Approved Product List (APL) lists products approved for use.
