Road Scholar Program Outline

Road Scholar Level I aimed at entry-level transportation employees, those with no or limited experience, (up to 5 years experience in the transportation field.)  Road Scholar LVL I training answers municipalities' need to keep roadways safer and properly maintained at a lower cost.

Introduction to Survey & Grade Checking (16 hours)
Basic Work Zone Traffic Control/ Flagger Training (8 hours)
Basic Materials (8 hours)
CPR/1st Aid (8 hours)
Maintenance Math (8 hours)
Signing and Striping I (8 hours)
Two-way Radio and Effective Communications (8 hours)
Construction/ Maintenance Safety  (8 hours)
Safety in the Workplace (8 hours)
Total Road Scholar I hours 80

*No limit of course substitution from other institutions (for Level I Only)

Road Scholar II aimed at employees working within transportation industry, motivated to advance their knowledge, skills and abilities to excel their career.  Road Scholar LVL II training is in the beginning supervisory level and management course work (up to 10 years of field experience).  Road Scholar LVL II courses provide training for foremen and crew leaders.

Roadside Hazard Identification for Transportation Personnel (8 hours)
Drainage Course (8 hours)
Asphalt Pavement Maintenance (8 hours)

Management and Supervisory Skills for First-time Managers (8 hours)

Road Scholar III  aimed at employees within the transportation industry working in supervisory level and management positions (traditionally up to 15 years or more of experience.)  Road Scholar LVL III courses provide training for elected municipal officials in topics such as planning, supervising, policy making and managing.

Intermediate Survey (8 hours)
Work Zone Traffic Control III (8 hours)
Asphalt Pavement Maintenance II (8 hours)
Communication with the Public and Media (8 hours)
Writing Skills for Transportation Professionals (8 hours)
Management and Supervisory Skills for Experienced Managers (8 hours)
Project Management Techniques (16 hours)
Total Road Scholar III hours 64
